Director of Engineering

We are seeking an experienced and driven Director of Engineering to lead all engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations within a prestigious luxury hospitality setting.

This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and enhancement of all property assets, systems, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction to the engineering team while maintaining the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction.

The Opportunity

As Director of Engineering, you will oversee the day-to-day management of the engineering department, ensuring all facilities, equipment, and operational systems are maintained to exceptional standards. You will play a key role in supporting the overall success of the property through proactive maintenance planning, budget management, team development, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all engineering and maintenance operations across the property.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximise asset performance and longevity.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, water treatment, landscaping, and specialist operational systems.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
• Manage departmental budgets, inventories, and procurement processes.
• Provide leadership, training, coaching, and performance management for engineering team members.
• Coordinate emergency maintenance activities and respond effectively to operational challenges.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and service standards.
• Collaborate with senior management to support strategic business objectives and property enhancements.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Strong technical knowledge across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and building systems.
• Experience working with support facilities such as laundry operations, pumps, compressors, hydraulics, and water treatment systems.
• Understanding of fire life safety systems and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong organisational, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.
• A degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a senior engineering leadership role.
• Previous experience within luxury hospitality, hotels, resorts, or high-end commercial environments preferred.
• Demonstrated success in managing maintenance operations, budgets, and large-scale facilities.
• Commitment to delivering exceptional standards of operational performance and guest experience.
