Water Treatment & Systems Technician

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Water Treatment & Systems Technician to join a dynamic engineering and maintenance team. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with experience in water treatment systems, mechanical and electrical maintenance, and control systems who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment and delivering reliable operational performance.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and optimising critical water production, plumbing, and recreational water systems while ensuring high levels of equipment reliability and efficiency.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and repair water treatment and purification systems.

  • Perform inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on pumps, valves, filtration equipment, instrumentation, and associated systems.

  • Optimise system performance through testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Investigate and resolve operational issues relating to automated control systems.

  • Maintain and support PLC-operated equipment and related control infrastructure.

  • Inspect, configure, and service variable speed drives, motor controls, and associated electrical components.

  • Carry out fault-finding on electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Service and maintain swimming pool, spa, and recreational water treatment equipment.

  • Repair and maintain circulation pumps, filtration units, chemical dosing systems, sensors, and control devices.

  • Complete plumbing installations, modifications, maintenance, and repairs as required.

  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and pipework layouts to support maintenance and project activities.

  • Assist with upgrades and enhancements to water distribution and treatment systems.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased system efficiency.

  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.

  • Respond promptly to equipment failures and operational emergencies.

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrable experience working with water treatment, purification, or desalination systems.

  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance and fault diagnosis techniques.

  • Experience working with automated control systems, including PLCs.

  • Understanding of variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor controls, and related electrical systems.

  • Practical experience maintaining swimming pool, spa, or leisure water systems.

  • Solid plumbing knowledge, including installation, repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, engineering drawings, and control diagrams.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.

  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to maintenance challenges.

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.

About You

You are a practical and technically minded professional who enjoys working directly with equipment and solving complex technical problems. You can quickly assess system performance, identify underlying faults, and implement effective solutions with minimal supervision.

Experience gained within sectors such as water treatment, utilities, facilities management, hospitality, marine operations, industrial engineering, or large-scale property maintenance would be highly beneficial.
