Assistant Marine Operations Manager

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Marine Operations Manager to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and well-coordinated marine transport operations within a busy and fast-paced environment.
This is a varied, hands-on role that combines operational oversight, team coordination, and safety management, working closely with vessel crews and senior leadership to ensure seamless day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Assist in the coordination of daily vessel activity, including scheduling and movement planning
- Monitor ongoing operations to ensure efficiency across passenger and cargo services
- Act as a central point of communication for operational requests, including ad-hoc and VIP transfers
- Track fuel usage, weather conditions, and vessel locations to optimise performance
- Support maintenance planning, including routine servicing and urgent repairs
Team Coordination
- Assist with workforce scheduling and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
- Support the management of crew performance, attendance, and day-to-day issues
- Coordinate training programmes and support skills development across the team
- Assist with payroll-related processes, including timekeeping review
Safety & Compliance
- Support adherence to all maritime safety standards and operational procedures
- Assist in monitoring incident reports, working hours, and safety compliance
- Help ensure all vessels maintain valid certifications and inspection readiness
- Promote a strong safety culture across all marine operations
Emergency Response
- Provide operational support during marine incidents and emergency situations
- Assist in coordinating communication between vessels, management, and external authorities
- Support implementation of emergency protocols, including evacuations if required
- Contribute to post-incident reporting and review processes
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in marine operations or ferry services
- Previous exposure to managing vessel operations and marine logistics
- Experience supporting or managing teams within operational environments
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
- Valid maritime certification (Boat Master or equivalent preferred)
Technical & Operational Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Marine safety protocols
- Operational planning and coordination
- Risk management procedures
- Competent with IT systems and Microsoft Office

- Excellent organisational and coordination ability

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Additional Requirements
- Flexibility to support operations outside standard hours when required
- Willingness to be on call for operational or emergency situations
- Good visual capability (including colour recognition for navigation safety)
